Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt received mixed reviews from film critics and audiences alike. While some found the film a match for Hollywood, some said the science-fiction extravaganza lacked soul. Amidst negative reviews, it was reported that Brahmastra has suffered a loss of Rs 800 crore to PVR and INOX investors. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut also shared the report saying that director Ayan Mukerji has burnt the money to ashes. Responding to the ongoing rumors of heavy damages to Brahmastra, PVR CEO Kamal Gyanchandani refuted the reports saying that they are baseless and untrue. In a series of tweets, Gyanchandani said that the PVR theater chain has done phenomenal business with Brahmastra by collecting a net worth of Rs 8.18 crore on the first day of release. He compared the Brahmastra box office collection to the performance of other films of rocking star Yash, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR in Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (3.26 crores) and SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR (8.64 crores). KGF 2 (11.95 crores), Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi (2.58 crores) and Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi (5.08 crores). He also said that the verdict of the paying audience is positive and they are enjoying and promoting the film. He said that PVR has had a great weekend and it is encouraging to see the huge range of films in the next 3 months.

Apart from Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Brahmastra also features Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Shah Rukh Khan in a special cameo. The film was made on a budget of over Rs 400 crore and released in 5,000 screens in India and over 3,000 screens abroad.
