As King Khan sat down in Jeddah on the eve of the second edition of the festival, Shah Rukh Khan spoke about returning to films after a long gap. She said their hiatus was kickstarted by her desire to be more available to her children and that with her two eldest children in college in the US, her constant filming schedule made it difficult for her to drop everything and meet . Talking about his daughter Suhana Khan’s transfer from the UK to New York and waiting for her to call for eight months, Shah Rukh told Deadline, “She never called me. Soon after being hit by Covid, Shah Rukh signed his spy action film Pathan with Yash Raj Films. The film marks its first foray into the action genre. He said that he has always done cute love stories, some social dramas, some bad guys but no one was taking him for action films. Since he is 57 now, the superstar plans to do action films for the next 10 years. He also said that he always wanted to do films like Mission Impossible which had over-the-top action.

Shah Rukh also talked about the emergence of OTT platforms and how people have become used to watching movies on their hand-held devices. He added that though there has been a change in the nature of the audience to watch a variety of movies and series on streaming platforms, there will always be a place for movies in theatres. But he insisted viewers refrain from watching movies on phones, saying “they’re too young.”
