There has been huge support for Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone since they represented India in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 while promoting their upcoming film Pathan. The controversy over Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Pathan had started after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra objected to the song Besharam Rang from the film, claiming that it hurts the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. He said the way saffron and green were used in the costumes of Deepika and Shahrukh is objectionable. At the same time, Hindutva activists across the country have threatened to launch a campaign against the film if the song is not removed. The boycott campaign against Pathan has already started on social media platforms and right-wing trolls are forcing people not to watch the film in theatres. Unfazed by the controversy, Deepika represented India, ranked 106 in world football, in the Argentina-France encounter at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar. He unveiled the gleaming gold trophy that went to Argentina who beat France on penalties in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Shah Rukh Khan, on the other hand, was seen chatting and dancing with English football legend Wayne Rooney in the studios of FIFA World Cup broadcaster, Sports 18. He also joked with Rooney and vice versa. King Khan was also seen teaching his signature pose to Rooney, who said that Shah Rukh is the most popular Asian star in Britain.

As pictures and videos of Deepika and Shah Rukh from the Lusail Stadium went viral on the internet, fans put up a brave front to defend the two Indian superstars who have made the country proud on the global map time and again.

Pathan is set to hit the screens on January 25, 2023.
